Delfts Plaisier

By 14-02-2015

Wilma Plaisier, of South African origin, immigrated to the Netherlands in 1992. She worked for ten years as a delftware painter at Royal Delft. This company, formerly known as the Porceleyne Fles, is the last remaining ceramics factory out of 32 potteries that around the mid-17th century were located in Delft and surroundings.

During her time at Royal Delft, Wilma specialized in painting earthenware in various techniques, including the world famous Delft Blue and Delft Red-Blue-Gold, an interpretation of the Japanese Imari porcelain. Currently, Wilma works under the name of Delft Plaisier as an independent designer and master painter of decorative pottery. In addition to designing and creating her own products, she regularly works together with other designers, companies or private clients.

Wilma: “Modern doesn’t imply minimizing the decors, because that makes Delftware lose its greatest strength and enchantment. By looking at my surroundings with Delft Blue eyes, I try to design contemporary designs that simultaneously evoke the feeling of being part of a centuries-old tradition. ”
