Emma Children’s Hospital AMC

By 16-10-2015

Opera designed the interior of the Emma Children’s Hospital AMC on the basis of a deceptively simple starting point.

In combination with the guiding concept of ‘Metamorfose’ (metamorphosis), Opera defined three notions: home, city and world. Three zones of intimacy, starting with private and ending in society. From the child’s perspective, these concepts are translated as: I, we and they.

Opera took these notions as the guidelines for thinking about the degree of protection that the hospital interior should offer, about the sensory and emotional experiences that a child can acquire in the hospital environment and about the ways in which the outside world can manifest itself in this process.

In accordance with the commission, the different departments were given their own identity, but by using graphic symbols, colors, spatial illustrations and typography Opera created at the same time an overall identity to express the guiding concept of Metamorfose.
