Excidium

By 22-11-2014

Excidium: handmade shoes – embracing destruction, demolition, cataclysm, erosion, desolation.

Everywhere around us there are abandoned buildings. It often costs too much to restore them and are therefore demolished to make room for new projects without identity. These derelict buildings are bursting with ornaments; they live their own lives. The layers of dust become sand. Broken windows make room for the green to come inside.

The beauty of imperfection gives each object its own identity. The consequences of abandonment become more severe as time passes. Architectural shapes become erratic and are increasingly being overpowered by nature. Erosion, moss, fungi and oxidants adorn the walls, ceilings and floors. A world of new designs, textures and colors appears.

Excidium was designed for the collaboration collection by Judith van Vliet x Chris van den Elzen.
