Exhibition Berlage Godfather of Dutch Design

By 23-12-2015

In the exhibition ‘Berlage Godfather of Dutch Design’ unique highlights of the oeuvre of architect H.P. Berlage have been brought together with Dutch designs of today.

Berlage is probably the most important designer in the history of the Netherlands. He designed not only buildings such as the Beurs van Berlage, but also many exceptional pieces of furniture and objects. The Beursgebouw (stock exchange) is seen as the starting point of modern architecture in the Netherlands. Berlage’s design principles are still alive and kicking in contemporary Dutch Design.

The exhibition showcases authentic pieces of furniture by Berlage dating from around the turn of the century, including some unique pieces from the history of the Beursgebouw. The exhibition dissects Berlage’s style and shows on the basis of contemporary examples the beauty and willfulness of contemporary Dutch Design. The exhibition presents work by more than 20 Dutch designers, among whom Richard Hutten, Bertjan Pot, Ineke Hans, Floris Hovers, Scholten & Bajings, Chris Kabel, Studio Drift, Dirk vander Kooij, Benotat & Co, Christien Meindertsma, Marjan van Aubel and Joris Laarman.
