Looking With Your Hands
In honor of The Hague Fashion Week, Escher in Het Paleis organizes an exhibition with touchable fashion of the Dutch-Curaçaoan designer Michelangelo Winklaar. Inspired by his partially sighted mother, Winklaar has developed an experimental exhibition in which he allows the blind and visually impaired to experience a fashion collection through touch. Whereas a fashion collection in a museum should normally not be touched, Winklaar invites the public to use their sense of touch.
The exhibition, inspired by Lange Voorhout Palace and M.C. Escher, is in line with the mission of Escher in Het Paleis to be actively inclusive to target groups that may be less inclined to visit a museum. Not only will blind and visually impaired visitors be able to enjoy Winkler’s collection, but sighted visitors will also have the opportunity to discover fashion in a whole new way.
