Mainstudio is an Amsterdam based graphic design studio, founded by Edwin van Gelder in 2005. The studio creates publications, digital media, and visual identities for projects on the intersection of art, architecture and fashion.

Edwin: “When Dutch architect Wiel Arets became the dean of IIT Architecture Chicago in 2013, he asked me to design a prospectus to show his ideas and present the new curriculum. It was also the kickoff for the institute’s new identity system.”
“The starting point was the fact that 60% of the students came from outside the US and the outlook that the world will shrink and become one big city, with individual cities functioning as neighborhoods. The cover shows photos that are zooming out from Chicago into the world. Each side shows a different language to highlight the reach of the institution.”
