Daniel Maarleveld is a graphic designer based in Amsterdam. He has been working as a freelance designer since his graduation from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2007. He works together with several other designers, programmers and artists to create typefaces, books and websites.

Daniel: “In some of my work I am looking for unexplored possibilities of new or existing techniques based on natural, mechanical or mathematical principles. I am interested in the underlying characteristics and the aesthetics of software. I look for ways to show the shortcomings of the machine, because I believe these shortcomings reveal its handwriting. This results in work that balances between machine-made and hand-made.”

He works on a regular basis for Studio Moniker on identity work for Unite, the yearly game development conference of Unity Technologies. In addition to his work as a graphic designer he teaches typography at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem.
