Medicijnfabriek

By 01-09-2015

Medicijnfabriek (Medicine Factory) is a low-threshold art project in which people learn more about the healing benefits of the plants and flowers in their immediate environment. The project originated from the growing claim on the theme of ‘healthy’ by the pharmaceutical industry, food manufacturers and technologically innovative organizations.

During workshops of the Medicijnfabriek, participants tell the audience about their health. In nature, they then practice the ‘Intuitive Approach of Plants for Beginners’, developed by Circus Engelbregt. By, for instance, smelling and touching plants, participants end up with a specific plant. A plant expert decides whether this plant is a suitable medicine and what the effect of the plant is. In a special laboratory, the participants then process the selected plant into a medication.

In addition to a laboratory variant, there is now also an Ambulante Medicijnfabriek (Ambulatory Medicine Factory). The plant experts can take this ‘factory on wheels’ anywhere they need to go and carry out the workshops on the spot.

Medicijnfabriek has been nominated for the Dutch Design Award 2015 in the category Design Research.
