Passage Of Light

By 11-01-2016

Jeroen van de Gruiter (1987) graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven. His final project is entitled: ‘Passage Of Light’.

Jeroen: “I have been fascinated by phenomena created by light for some time now. It started with reflections of the sun on walls and objects, small temporary spectacles that mark time and provide atmosphere. There is a kind of magic to it. The framework in which I wanted to operate was the interior space, the everyday products we live with.”

“‘Slice’ is a small ambient light that is about controlling light in a more intuitive way. ‘Lay’ is a carrier for a small necklace and is made from alabaster because of its translucent qualities. The containers work by the principle of layering colour, different light situations influence the visual representation of the object.”

“The upholstery fabric is created by manipulating shadow colours in reliefs and turning them into a glow. The curtain fabric is designed to divide spaces without losing the sense of spatiality: the open woven structure at the top contributes to the orientation of the user, while the dense part provides privacy.”
