Wayfinding & identity Fontys

By 07-12-2014

The building of Economic Studies at the Fontys Campus in Eindhoven has been completely renovated. In cooperation with Mecanoo architects, design bureau Silo developed an integrated plan for the identity and signage with the aim of creating more interaction between the building and the users.

The ‘vertical campus’ principle has been developed to divide up the building in a new way to suit different user needs. Thus, a layout arose based on a scale from social interaction to individual concentration: meeting (ground floor), research (level 1), team working (level 2) and individual studies (level 3).

The clear signage with corresponding icons matches the graphic architecture and enable a good and quick navigation through the building. Several illustrations depicting the theme of ‘economics’ are incorporated in 38 conference rooms. Due to the transparent nature of the architecture, the illustrations are visible in many places.

Other examples of illustrative applications focused on interaction are the ‘social carpet’ and the ‘social stand’ in the central hall. Silo transformed the coffee bar in the central hall into a hotspot through the application of a 3D waffle shape with typographic system
