Solo exhibition Joris Laarman

By 02-12-2015

The Groninger Museum presents the first major solo exhibition of designer/inventor/visual artist Joris Laarman (1979). Laarman works at the interface of design, art and science, constantly exploring new materials and innovative technologies. The exhibition includes early, recent and new work.

Joris Laarman graduated in 2003 cum laude from Design Academy Eindhoven with the project ‘Reinventing Functionality’. With the baroque-looking radiator he designed for this graduation project, he made a stand against functionalist minimalism. His famous Bone Chair is an organically shaped chair, emerged from computer algorithms that simulate the optimal growth of bones.

In 2004, Laarman together with his partner, Anita Star, founded Joris Laarman Lab. In the Lab, an interdisciplinary team explores the future possibilities of design through research and experimentation. The exhibition coincides with the publication of the first retrospective book about Joris Laarman Lab.

After Groningen, the exhibition will go on an extensive international tour to Paris, New York and other cities around the world.
