Sonder ons

By 04-08-2015

ONE WEEK ABOUT Experience design by curators Trapped in Suburbia

Sascha Linguard’s graduation project Sonder Ons (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) challenges people to change the kinds of relationships they have with each other. By means of a simple intervention, Sascha transforms the experience of an everyday object and in doing so brings people closer together. Sascha explains that ‘Sonder’ is the word for the awareness that someone else’s life is just as important and balanced as yours. With one’s own personal ambitions, friends, routines and troubles. Everyone has their own life story in which they themselves play the leading role. All the people we pass by every day without interacting with them are just nonentities in our personal story, just as we are in their lives.

By making a small adjustment to an object, users can influence the experience of the object and take the decision to lead, to be led, or to stay neutral. It is Sacha’s aim to make the users aware that they can also choose for a more social world. That might just be a matter of making a little more effort, but it makes life so much more interesting and exciting. We fully share and endorse this view.

If you’ve missed the project, it will probably also be featured during the Dutch Design Week Eindhoven.
