The Big What If

By 26-05-2016

An evening on future scenarios and speculative design: What if? What happens if you don’t start designing from the here and now, but from a future scenario? Can you design something that does not exist yet? Can you shape the future by means of a design? And what if a vision of the future becomes reality?

During The Big What If four designers are going to speak about their work and about the role of What if ….. in their work.

Isaac Monté (Atelier Monté) investigates a future scenario in which the scientific improvement of an organ such as the heart is not the result of medical necessity, but of greed and the desire to please.

Vivian Hartung has with ‘My Atomic Body’ developed a collection of post-apocalyptic products in which the usability of algae is examined as a possible protection mechanism in the scenario of a nuclear disaster.

Bastiaan de Nennie digitizes parts of physical objects into sketches for new objects. In his work, objects from the pre-digital era form the building blocks in new, digital creations.

Mike Thompson (Thought Collider) is as a critical designer and researcher instinctively attracted to the dark corners of technological research. Collaborating with experts, Mike Thompson generates exceptional processes and tools to challenge societal prejudices.
