Some Logic

By 12-03-2015

Rop van Mierlo graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2008. He is especially known for his book ‘Wilde Dieren’ and his collaboration with the Italian fashion label Marni. Thousands of copies of Rop van Mierlo’s book ‘Wilde Dieren’ were sold to enthusiasts around the world. The title of his new book is ‘Some Logic’.

Rop: “What I like about the wet-on-wet technique that I use is that I’m really doing my very best on something of which I’m not sure whether it makes sense to do my best on.  While painting, I focus on the animal lying in front of me as a sketch of a photo. In fact, I just set a process in motion, with a drawing or painting as a starting point.”

“After my book ‘Wilde Dieren’, I wanted to investigate the wet-on-wet technique further and put together a new book along the same line. In ‘Wilde Dieren’, the focus was mainly on the way of painting, its uncontrolled character. With ‘Some Logic’, I have tried to make a book that makes no sense intellectually, but does so emotionally.”
