Wolunie Almere

By 10-10-2015

Since a few years, the Kromslootpark in Almere is being grazed by a herd of about 200 sheep. The sheep’s favorite snack is the giant hogweed, which is a true plague in Almere. In 2013, Reinder Bakker and Hester van Dijk of Overtreders W were asked to set up a brand for design products made of sheep wool.

In Almere, Bakker and Van Dijk built a small, human-powered wool factory consisting of machines that wash, card, dye and felt the wool. The Wolunie Almere was founded in the spring of 2014. Anyone can become a member and give the factory a helping hand with processing the wool.

During four workshops, the by now 200 members will create a woolen design product themselves. The collection began in 2014 with a felt lamp designed by Uli Budde, and in 2015 a felt bag designed by Lotty Lindeman was added. Every year, the collection grows with 1 product made that year by the members of the Wolunie.
