ONE WEEK ABOUT Dutch Designers in Milan by Connecting the Dots

They are sun-drenched days during this Salone. Girls with flyers in Via Tortona, ice cream vendors, armed cops, grumbling taxi drivers. Tortona at its best in the year 2016. At number 31, an assembly area of various presentations, Joost van Veldhuizen shows heavy, rough pieces of furniture with Biblical titles and proverbs. He has managed to turn a rigidly Reformed youth into a very personal design language. A broken cross swings across his hairy chest. It didn’t prevent the Salvation Army from commissioning him to design a furniture collection together with the people from their sheltered workshops. This collection is also used for the interior arrangement of the many buildings of this organization. Van Veldhuizen seems to be really cut out for this commission. Perhaps, next year it is an eye catcher at the Milan Design Week.
