One Week About Photography by Ahmet Polat

Annejet Brandsma’s recent work focuses mainly on the ‘noaberschap’ (neighborliness) in her home village Loo in the Achterhoek, where she has been living for 21 years now. During her time at the art academy she became more and more aware of how special this

’noaberschap’ is and of what it all entails. Apart from the solidarity and security, there are among young people also problems with alcohol and future prospect.

Aware of her own prejudices, she notices the unwritten laws, traditions and social expectations of the village. Such as caring for someone who falls ill or helping neighbors in the event of death.

When Annejet left for Amsterdam to do her internship, she realized that she could never really go back. Even so, in her photography she remains committed and personal, without hesitating to express her own opinion. Under the working title ‘Goed volk’ (Good people) her work will be exhibited for the first time during her graduation in June 2017.
