ONE WEEK ABOUT Designers from Rotterdam by Lucas Verweij – Designplatform Rotterdam

Increasingly fewer designers are taking an in-depth interest in industrial production. The younger generation finds the processes too time-consuming and too laborious. In the past it just didn’t occur, designers who didn’t want to produce industrially; it was inherent in the profession. But the marriage between industry and design has ended up in a fight separation. Both parties do not want to continue together.

Arian Brekveld is still interested though, he even loves the idea. He likes products that can be made in production runs. He is good at it, he has the patience and the precision and the knowledge for it. The limitations of mass production are huge; it often also means cost savings and limitations in form and material possibilities.

Where would this world be without industrial designers? Industry can produce quality that is affordable for everyone. The number of industrial designers is diminishing, so there’s all the more reason to put them in the spotlight. Go Arian, go.
