ONE WEEK ABOUT Designers from Rotterdam by Lucas Verweij – Designplatform Rotterdam

Better Future Factory is a new-fangled design studio. A group of designers, scientists, and weirdos with a shared motivation: reuse and sustainable innovation. Their work is mainly about recycling and they recycle in an innovative way, by melting and transforming plastic waste into granule. This can then be recycled into new products by 3D – printing.

Together with companies and designers they create iconic and scalable projects that sometimes develop into independent start-ups or profitable business cases. All their projects have an educational touch. Old slices of bread are converted into energy, orphaned ‘flippo’s’ (Dutch for POGs or ‘milk caps’) become sunglasses. Everything is always quite visible and understandable. The designers are the lawyers of the circular economy, they believe that fascinating stories and innovative technology can create a cleaner and better future. We can never have enough idealists in Rotterdam.
