ONE WEEK ABOUT Designers from Rotterdam by Lucas Verweij – Designplatform Rotterdam

Self-willed woman from Rotterdam, who on her own well-nigh invented a design genre: research design. Contrary to design which can often be manipulative, her work reflects an unveiled honesty. She began with a book about the pig and showed hundreds of uses of ‘parts’ of the pig. From tooth paste to bullets and from paint to shoulder chops.

She knitted sweaters from the wool of just one sheep and made a book of which the paper consisted of 49 sheets each of them made from one different type of grass. She recently made a chair of biodegradable textiles. She did not only develop the chair but actually also the material (with Enkev). Christien is a talented designer who in all her willfulness shows what more design can do.
