The launch

ONE WEEK ABOUT WOTH Wonderful Things Magazine by Mary Hessing

I’m normally quite precise, especially when it comes to parties and celebrations. I have done the organization of shows and events for many years and they had to be carried out in detail exactly the way I wanted. At the launch of WOTH at Arita-house I had to recognize the superiority of others.

Scholten & Baijings have succeeded in turning a former pumping station at the Ruyschdaelkade in Amsterdam (next to the Rijksmuseum) into an enchanting exhibition space, shop and guesthouse. Arita House derives its name from the Arita 2016/Collection that was created under the direction of Scholten & Baijings in Japan and will be on display there until the end of December. With a garden designed by Piet Oudolf, it has become a sophisticated, almost serene OASIS. We couldn’t have dreamt of a better match in terms of content, form and mentality for the launch of WOTH – Wonderful Things Magazine.

Carole Baijings and Stefan Scholten made the space and garden available to us and organized everything down to the smallest detail. I was more nervous than ever about this launch, but it appeared that regarding organizational matters I could delegate everything. The girls, drinks, table cloths and snacks were great and we were lucky to have a day with a magnificent late-summer sun. Stefan also spoke some sweet words, for which we all say thanks!

Searching for the perfect match is the essence of a successful adventure. This is something we have experienced more often in this exciting process of the release of a magazine. A top evening with lots and lots of fun, interesting, joyful and enthusiastic visitors; employees, press and brands who have all contributed to WOTH. The energy and the drive to make it a success together are just overwhelming. That is very catching indeed.

So anyone who hasn’t ordered an issue yet, hurry to the store before they’re sold out. From Tuesday September 6 at Bruna, Ako and bookshops in your area. Let’s work together to make sure that WOTH becomes a success!

It only remains for me now to thank my partner Toon Lauwen. Without him, WOTH wouldn’t have existed. He was the one who planted the idea in my head and during the implementation process did his utmost to make this project a success.

PS. We will launch the second issue during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.
