ONE WEEK ABOUT Graphic Design
Introducing Joost Overbeek. Born in 1966, graduated in Arnhem in 1992, owner of design studio Overburen in Amsterdam.
There are a number of issues that have been determinative in what I think and what I make and have made. My aversion of pretensions which was inspired by my father, my preference for fun (more on that later), my body that’s slowly collapsing by MS and my choice for working with a studio instead of on my own. I find, for example, that I can’t afford to do too many things that I don’t like doing; I really love work that can be laughed about (by myself most of all) and I don’t really need to make everything myself – I enjoy it just as much when somebody else at the studio makes something brilliant (luckily that’s something they do regularly). In addition to designing I’m keeping myself busy with writing and creating ‘free work’. Short stories. News, funny trivia and weird images. The most recent booklet (‘Sneu’) is now available at bol.com.
