One Week About Fashion & Textile by Lilian Driessen
British-born Remy Castle (1980) graduated in 2005 with an MA degree in Fine Art Graphics & Photography. She initiated her career in Italy within the creative industry. Remy relocated to Amsterdam in 2011, to further develop herself and expand her creative platform. She currently works as an art director specialized in concept and design, bridging fashion, branding, events, retail, print and digital communications.
Her photographic work explores fashion. Instead of staging the glossy and the glamorous, she observes the fringes of fashion almost in a journalistic way. Small fascinating moments of intimacy and personal stories, which she combines with a keen interest in moments of everyday life, predominately captured in black and white.
She is an image maker who is drawn to the notion of fashion not being constrained by an obvious representation of clothing. Fashion can be anything, any gesture, any story added to our naked bodies, at home, outside, on the streets, between us. Images can recall these specific emotions just like the emotions that lie within a garment, which however cannot be fixed.
The selected works evoke intuitive choices, attempting to introduce a perspective derived from the gut. Each exploring a sensibility toward composition, tone and contrast lending a certain graphic nature to the composed images.
