In today’s fast-paced consumer culture, the enduring beauty and potential of natural stone are often disregarded.
Offcuts, leftover construction material and furniture are frequently discarded and even pulverised, devaluing the material while causing significant waste and pollution. Fascinated by the unique properties of stone, Remi Reniers developed a method to transform this discarded material into modular ‘building blocks’ for furniture using reconfigurable steel connectors. This approach allows odd-shaped and differently coloured stone pieces to be combined into functional and aesthetic furniture. Remi’s collection, featuring a side table, bench and shelf cupboard, showcases the unique beauty and ongoing functionality of stone, even after it has been discarded.

About the practice
Remi Reniers is an Eindhoven based designer, recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven, with a passion for materials. Her work is driven by a deep respect for a material and the curiosity for its potential. She often draws her inspiration from nature or finds it in the material itself. By letting playful hands-on experimentation guide her creative processes, she aims to create thought-provoking pieces that push the boundaries of design, craftsmanship and/or production processes. Her goal is to create works that are both functional and inspiring to the industry as well as the consumer as the findings of her research are translated into furniture objects, or suitable for other interior purposes.
