A different perspective on four centuries of Dutch Design

The furniture we sit on, the clothes we wear, the advertisements we see – they tell the story of the Netherlands. But what actually makes Dutch Design ‘Dutch’? And do the iconic designs tell the whole story? Are we overlooking indispensable objects and designs? And what hidden stories lie behind them?

Design critic Jeroen Junte asked thirty professionals from the worlds of design, fashion and architecture to contribute to a multi-voiced list of design icons with which all Dutch people can identify. From artistic prototypes to everyday utensils and graphic activism. Nieuwe Iconen (New Icons) links surprising historical insights to design. The result is a stimulating quest for a more diverse, inclusive and sustainable image of what Dutch Design was, is and can become.

Met interviews met onder anderen Marleen Stikker (Waag Futurelab), Martine Postma (Repair Café), Yassine Salihine (hoofdcurator Designmuseum Den Bosch), Bas van Abel (oprichter Fairphone) en Abderrahmane Trabsini (oprichter Daily Paper).
