Claudy Jongstra: Ancient Light

Het Fries Museum

Exhibition | Fashion | Material

The Fries Museum in Leeuwarden presents a major exhibition about the leading artist/designer Claudy Jongstra. Her expressive textile works are characterized by the use of natural materials and a high degree of tactility.

The exhibition provides insights into the world of Claudy Jongstra: her sources of inspiration and motivations and her intuitive and sustainable creative process. It also shows new work. The creative process gets ample attention in the exhibition: visitors feel like being in her studio and experiencing the stages of creation and production.

The exhibition presents sketches, experiments and photos of the creative process of the mural for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and of the costumes for Star Wars. It also shows a large new work in which Jongstra distances herself from her current felt work and chooses a new direction with spatial textile works.

Also Jongstra’s interest in artisanal production methods, green materials and sustainable methods and her attention for the quality of life, biodiversity and small communities are revealed in the exhibition.
