In the past couple of months the photo restoration studio of the Dutch Museum of Photography has restored about thousand of Ed van der Elsken’s color slides. It concerns all images from Van der Elsken’s photo book ‘Eye Love You’ (1977) and a number of photo series for the magazine Avenue.

The Dutch Museum of Photography invited photographer Eddy Posthuma de Boer to act as a guest curator and asked him to make a personal choice from the color slides that Van der Elsken made for Avenue. Posthuma de Boer has added a personal note to every photo.

This summer, the Dutch Museum of Photography was the first museum traveling along with theatre festival De Parade. The photos from ‘Eye Love You’ were shown by means of multimedia technologies. The show was traveling from Rotterdam to The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam.

The restoration of the slides of ‘Eye Love You’ has made it possible to publish this legendary book once again. In the years after the book was published, both its color photography and its design were considered ground-breaking.
