33 – De Best Verzorgde Boeken 2020
33 – De Best Verzorgde Boeken|The Best Dutch Book Designs 2020 was designed by Tessa van der Waals. She makes the selection of 33 books pass in review on the basis of 33 themes. Themes ‘that reflect the many characteristics of the object book. From the outside to the inside, from the structure of the paper, via the ink and the printing to the binding. The depiction of the 33 themes was created within each theme according to the same, predetermined magnification rate and camera angle. The macro photography – by Harold Strak – reveals things that are not immediately visible to the naked eye. The dilemmas facing the creators are ruthlessly exposed. The book is a paean to the craft of book making. An ode to the makers.
The catalog itself is also the result of the collaboration and dedication of a team. Besides Harold Strak, there were six printers (Tielen, NPN, RaddraaierSSP, robstolk®, Wilco Art Books, Zwaan Lenoir) and bookbinders Patist and Herman van Waarden. With paper provided by Igepa Nederland (also a sponsor).
The publication is made possible by ASF, Igepa Nederland, Pictoright Fonds and L. van Heek Textiles. BNO is our permanent partner.
