“My work rises from my curiousity about people and how they are interacting with the world around them. My sculptures relate and reflect to the environment in which we live, and visualize my ideas and thoughts with a twist.
In a subtle manner and with humor, the sculptures transform situations which, at the first glance, seem impossible and too difficult to change. And they take unexpected turns. One of my goals is to visualize the narratives in the most concise way possible. I want to seduce the visitor to (re-)think these (common) situations. To show him or her an ordinary situation, problem, action from a different perspective.”
“Tomas Schats contests the influence of design upon our environment. Where design attributes its influence as an ‘elegant at best’ carrier of function and morals, Schats applies absurd visual perspectives upon the constitution of this design.”– Freek Lomme
