A dementia-friendly ‘Blokkie Om’
One Week About The Social Design Lobby. Each day we feature one of the participants of the Social Design calendar, today ‘Blokkie Om’ (Block around) by Buro Zorgelozer.
“In 2018, the municipality of Rotterdam commissioned the development of a dementia-friendly shopping route for the elderly in Overschie. Full freedom in the design process allowed plenty of room for design research and co-creation with the target group.
For the design and launch of ‘Blokkie Om’ in 2019, we walked through the neighbourhood together, drinking tea and knitting scarves. A new design was created in 2021, which made it easier for the municipality to scale up the route. When I walk through Overschie now, I know many elderly people – and I experience that as wealth.”
The Social Design calendar can still be ordered via www.thesocialdesignlobby.com
The more people tear up, the better the position of social design!
