Driving Dutch Design – Thom Bindels
ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)
Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of ABN AMRO, Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO) and Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Thom Bindels is one of them.
How can we change the clash between the human and the natural ecosystem into a symbiotic balance? There is a growing awareness that the human interpretation of efficiency is no longer efficient in the context of the natural system of which we are still a part.
For studio AmperDesign, the Netherlands is an interesting place at this time. Because nature is cultivated here by definition, we have traditionally viewed the landscape as malleable on the basis of this symbiotic relationship. Lessons can be learned from the interweaving of the landscape we live from and the landscape we live in, which are also becoming increasingly relevant internationally.
“AmperDesign invites connections between disconnected fields and aims to create diversity in both social and natural monocultures.”
With a talent development grant from the Stimuleringsfonds voor creatieve industrie, AmperDesign researches the human relationship with its biotope and natural environment. People’s personal stories about their ‘biotope’ or ‘landscape’ show what binds us to our surroundings and how valuable a place can become through the stories it contains.
