Fest of Movement

By 21-10-2022

Every year, Dutch Design Awards (DDA) honours the best Dutch designers and their most impressive and groundbreaking projects. Various disciplines, viewpoints and solutions are judged in light of the impact they have on our society. Dutch Design Awards thereby gives a boost to the profession as a whole. The best Dutch design, viewed in perspective and placed on a pedestal.

DDA nomination 2022 | Best Commissioning
To mark its 175th anniversary, Vlisco decided to transform its ugly concrete head office into a celebration of colour and movement. The challenge was to capture the creative essence of the company and to make the building as bold, surprising and vibrant as a Vlisco print design. Simone Post designed an intervention that is open to different interpretations, just like the brand’s fabric designs. The result is the largest mural in the Netherlands, painted entirely by hand with rollers and brushes and executed by painters’ collective ‘De Strakke Hand’. The mural reflects Vlisco’s mission and pride: to place design and creativity at the heart of everything it does.

Expert jury
Vlisco has been using design strategically for years and demonstrates boldness with this corporate graffiti. With Simone Post, the brand has chosen a designer who has already explored all kinds of new possibilities and who fits in with the company strategy, which is proof of good commissioning. In turn, Post has made Vlisco visible on the outside and created a striking manifestation of the building. Her artistic signature and the Vlisco language blend seamlessly together; the head office now contributes literally and figuratively to the colourful and tactile motives that typify the brand. Fitting and extremely recognisable.
