MacGuffin is a new and unusual design & crafts magazine made by Kirsten Algera and Ernst van der Hoeven. It features fabulous stories about the life of ordinary, often anonymously designed things.
Each biannual edition takes an object and explores the manifold stories it generates. Like the MacGuffins in Hitchcock films, these things are not the main characters but plot devices that set the story in motion.
After issues devoted to the The Bed and The Window, the September 2016 issue will focus on The Rope. Launched at the London Design Biennale, it will feature a compendium of rope-related subjects, examined by luminaries that include design curator Justin McGuirk, designer Bertjan Pot, writer Arnon Grunberg and bondage master Zachary Porter.
MacGuffin is nominated for the Dutch Design Awards 2016
