Rethinking Plastic Challenge – Soowon Chae
As part of the Rethinking Plastic programme, Yksi Expo – together with the Stokroos Foundation – has developed assignments for five young designers from the Yksi Expo Young Talent team. As an incentive to take them a step further in their development and career. Today we present Soowon Chae.
Ocragela moulded, shaped and casted
Soowon Chae developed Ocragela, a sustainable and biodegradable material based on ocher, gelatin, glycerine and water. With variations in colours, patterns, texture, thickness and flexibility. He also showed the possibilities of this material for various applications, such as textile material. For this assignment, Soowon Chae researched sustainable coatings with natural materials to bring Ocragela to an industrial and practical application level. He also tested whether Ocragela can be processed like plastic.
