Walter van Hulst

Walter van Hulst (1955) studied Management & Innovation and is a freelance journalist, communications consultant and organizer. He has written for various media on a wide range of subjects including science, innovation and design, was editor-in-chief of the magazine Slow Management and published several books.

In the field of design, he did the communications for Yksi Ontwerp and Yksi Expo in Eindhoven for more than 30 years. He was also co-initiator of the Day of Design and the Week of Design (now Dutch Design Week).

Together with Leonne Cuppen, he developed numerous exhibitions in the field of design in relation to sustainability and circularity, such as Liberation of Light, Dutch Bike Design, Clean Revolution (Dutch Design for a better World), Beyond Coffee, Rethinking Plastic and Art and Plastics. Some of these exhibitions travelled all over the world.

Gumshoe – a shoe made from recycled gum leftovers from the streets of Amsterdam through a collaboration between sustainable material maker, Gumdrop, I Amsterdam and fashion company Explicit. This shoe was part of the exhibition Clean Revolution, Dutch Design for a better world (San Francisco, 2018).
