The Province of Groningen manages all of her road networks. The road from the city of Groningen to the town of Hoogezand requires some extra attention as accidents often occur along this route. The province has commissioned research into the driving and viewing behaviour of cyclists and motorists along this route. This study showed that motorists who approach this road expect cyclists from only one side despite the fact that cyclists come from both directions.

Studio 212 Fahrenheit was asked to develop an object at the intersection of art and design that contributes to a change in behaviour among road users. After a lot of research, they developed ‘All Eyes On You’.

Studio 212 Fahrenheit: “Safety is a broad and subjective concept. That is why we came up with a camera pole made of gold with 20 fake cameras. Each camera has an eye that follows the road user through a lenticular technique. Research has shown that road users thus become very aware of their environment and adjust their behaviour. In addition, ‘All Eyes On You’ has now become a benchmark in the landscape along the route and reminds all of us that we must always look out for each other and take care of each other.”

‘All Eyes On You’ was awarded with a Red Dot Award
