Rethinking energy and building with salt.

The 100 days of foreland.studios ‘Hydromax’ research has provided many new perspectives on the energy transition. Collectief Soepel foresees that a large-scale byproduct will be created by this transition in the coming decades: salt.

As a result of the growing demand for ‘fresh’ water, we will need to bring seawater to land for filtration. This process will leave huge amounts of concentrated saltwater (Brine). What will humans do with this abundance?

BrineBlocks shows the potential of ordinary salt as a smart building material and as a heat battery. In this installation, you can take a rest in the warm bed of salt or warm your hands at the salt radiators.
