Discover the dreamscapes of internationally renowned Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf (1944, Haarlem) at Kunstkerk Dordrecht. Piet shows nature at its most beautiful. His gardens form a world unto themselves, with plants and grasses that continue to amaze throughout all seasons.
Dreamscapes brings his universe to life with drawings, sketches, photography, and film. The exhibition invites visitors to take a closer look at what grows, changes, and passes.

Experience one of Piet’s newest gardens in Dordrecht’s Hofkwartier, just in front of the entrance to the Kunstkerk. Inside, you can admire the original drawings of this garden. In addition, impressive projects are on display, such as the High Line in New York, Oudolf Field at Hauser & Wirth Somerset in England, and the Oudolf Garten at the Vitra Campus in Germany. They show how Piet transforms places into gardens full of tranquility, space, and romance. These are landscapes to wander through, in the middle of a busy world.
Every dream begins on paper. Piet’s hand-drawn planting plans are central to the exhibition. He creates his designs using colored pencils, felt-tip pens, and markers. Each plan includes a legend with colorful symbols—lines, circles, crosses, and dots—each representing a specific plant. These drawings show how experience, knowledge, and a sense of atmosphere come together in the design of his dream landscapes, which continue to inspire people around the world.

About Piet Oudolf
Piet Oudolf (1944) grew up in Haarlem and developed into one of the most influential landscape designers in the world. In 1982, he and his wife Anja moved to an old farmhouse in Hummelo, where they started a nursery and experimental garden. This place became an important base for their ideas about garden design and attracted visitors from all over the world for many years. His gardens combine ecology with aesthetics and showcase the beauty of all seasons. His work and ideas spread worldwide through his gardens, more than twenty publications, and various exhibitions. In doing so, he inspired generations of designers, architects, and artists. In the Netherlands, he designed the gardens at Museum Voorlinden, Vlinderhof in Utrecht, and in Rotterdam: Leuvehoofd, Ichtushof, and Westerkade.
