ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2023, Kim Bijnen is one of them.

I infuse light with colour and narrative. Transforming the light that enters your space into something personal. I achieve this through the craft of stained glass. In 2020, I established my stained glass atelier. Drawing from my background as a graphic designer, I find myself entirely at ease within this traditional craft, using it as a medium to shape images from coloured glass and lead.

My vision is simple yet profound By reimagining stained glass in a fresh light, I aspire to reignite an appreciation for the beauty of this craft and the patience poured into each unique piece. As my panels find their place in homes and workplaces, I’m consistently captivated by the transformative beauty of light streaming through, reshaping the ambiance. I see immense potential for this decorative art form to transform and find a home in contemporary settings, seamlessly blending the old and the new. I’m excited to contribute to this shift, guiding the tradition to evolve gracefully into this present day.

The Driving Dutch Design initiative has heightened my awareness of the path I was taking, empowering me to clearly express and share it with the world. Moreover, the program has nurtured a newfound confidence in me, to thrive as an entrepreneur.
