ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2024, Meike Nieuwenhuis is one of them.
“I am Meike Nieuwenhuis, fashion designer and creator of colorful, expressive, sustainable garments. At Studio Meike Nieuwenhuis, I combine my love of craft, connection and fashion.
“I believe our daily lives need more spontaneity, color and fun. This is reflected in my pattern designs, textures, use of color and the way I play with these elements. My goal is to positively inspire people to dress more playfully and colorfully. I like to share the story and process behind each garment because I believe that knowing about the making process leads to a deeper connection with clothing and more conscious choices.”
“I started my fashion design studio in The Hague in 2022. I work with various clients and find inspiration in collaborations with various disciplines and crafts. I enjoy working with passionate entrepreneurs and social organizations. Together we strive for innovative and sustainable solutions.”
“Driving Dutch Design fuels me to expand my creative horizons and has strengthened my professional skills. The program has given me valuable connections with fellow designers and insights and provides knowledge and insights to professionalize my studio in a way that suits me.”
Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship.
