ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF)Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship. Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2023, Kim Thomas Kronenberg is one of them.

Thomas Kronenberg (1989) is a versatile and imaginative stage and set designer. Experience, joy, and fantasy are at the core of his work.

As a child, Thomas attended drawing lessons at the renowned ‘Kleine Academie’ by Elly Bos.  After completing his gymnasium education, he pursued a degree in Art & Technology in Enschede, graduating in 2012. Thomas gained valuable experience during his seven-year tenure at ID&T – the world’s leading electronic music experience company. There, he learned to design impressive mainstages, develop a creative vision, and oversee its realization. After a show or event, stages and sets are often completely dismantled, creating a temporary nature that makes observing Thomas’ work a unique experience each time.

In 2021, Thomas founded his own company, THO. With it’s motto creating collective joy, THO crafts environments meant to be experienced, felt, and lived. THO is an infinite source of creativity and imagination, characterized by playfulness, curiosity, and artistic expression.

Together with event organizers, Thomas strives to produce his stages in the most sustainable way possible. He has developed expertise in the reuse of set materials, integrating elements from old sets into new designs. This approach minimizes the use of new resources without compromising the audience’s perception of the recycled sets.

In addition to his work for various clients, Thomas delivers guest lectures twice a year at NextStage Academy, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of designers and event makers.
