Linen Beyond Fashion is part of the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week and joins Maaike Gottschal in their programming. Both in the city of Rotterdam and in the Buijtenland van Rhoon.
Unique project in the Buijtenland van Rhoon where farmer, fashion designer and processor together reweave the local flax chain.
Area cooperative Buijtenland van Rhoon, nature-inclusive farmers Arjo Klok, De Vossenburg, Wiard Visser and Gert van Herk, Van de Bilt Seeds & Flax and textile expert Maaike Gottschal have joined forces in the ‘Linen Beyond Fashion’ project. Our aim is to bring flax back into the local textile chain. We will spend the next few years designing and teaching so that there is a new generation of fashion designers who appreciate the value of flax and can work with it.

As green as flax
For five years, flax has been grown in the polders of the Buijtenland van Rhoon, more than 35 hectares of flax is part of the building plans of nature-inclusive farmers. Flax is a nature-friendly, sustainable crop and good for biodiversity with unexpected and many opportunities for designers.
