Nomination DuPho. SO Award 2021

“Sometimes I lose myself for weeks in a search on Funda. Looking for houses with places from another world, with structure and beauty or ugliness. In my work, foreground and background are equally important. As are form and feeling. Where we experience a day is the basis. And if we experience it together, it becomes a story. That has nothing to do with logical reasoning.

That is also how the day begins for the Anker brothers. Their brotherhood, their form, their jokes tell me which way I should go.

Anna-Maja led me to the poster of Queens Gambit the day before she became national women’s chess champion.

The photo of Marieke Lucas Rijneveld was in her commission. That brings different rules, free and less free at the same time. Sometimes I really have to search and the photo only comes when I have found myself again. That search is always worthwhile.”
