ONE WEEK ABOUT Kaboom Animation Festival

The annual Kaboom Animation Festival – this year from 21 to 30 March in Utrecht, Amsterdam and online – presents the latest, most creative, innovative and daring (inter)national animation productions. Over the next few days, we show some of the Dutch participants, today Alina Milkina.

Alina Milkina
Alina Milkina is a Ukrainian Netherlands-based filmmaker. While growing up in Ukraine, Alina used to watch a lot of USSR animation which influenced her future signature as a visual storyteller. She graduated from Minerva Academy in Groningen, Netherlands with a specialization in illustration and obtained a master’s degree in animation from AKV St. Joost in ’s- Hertogenbosch. Her graduation film Morning Grass was selected for Annecy in 2021.

After working for several years in the Dutch film industry as a 2D animator, Alina focused her practice on independent filmmaking. Her Ultrakort film COO-RAGE premiered in 2024 at the Netherlands Film Festival. In her storytelling, she portrays the topics of longing for home, the courage to follow one’s inspirations, and the poetry of simple things in our surroundings.
