ONE WEEK ABOUT Kaboom Animation Festival

The annual Kaboom Animation Festival – this year from 5 to 14 April in Utrecht, Amsterdam and online – presents the latest, most creative, innovative and daring (inter)national animation productions. Over the next few days, we show some of the Dutch participants, today Dario van Vree.

Dario van Vree
Dario van Vree (1979) studied Animation at the Royal Academy of Arts in Gent, Belgium. After graduating cum laude in 2006 he returned to Amsterdam, working as an animation director, creator and illustrator. Dario is an active member of the animation scene, combining teaching, talent development and event-organizing with running his animation studio / production company Studio Pupil and working freelance. His work is characterized by societal themes, clear-cut design, character performance and comedy.

His latest personal work is the 30-minute animated short film ‘I’m Perfectly Fine’, based on the graphic novel ‘Burnout Diary’ by Dutch comic artist Maaike Hartjes. The film was produced over a period of 4 years between 2019-2023 in the Netherlands and Belgium.
