ONE WEEK ABOUT Kaboom Animation Festival

The annual Kaboom Animation Festival – this year from 5 to 14 April in Utrecht, Amsterdam and online – presents the latest, most creative, innovative and daring (inter)national animation productions. Over the next few days, we show some of the Dutch participants, today Junaid Chundrigar.

Junaid Chundrigar
Animator/director Junaid Chundrigar (1986) graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts in 2011. A year later, he started his own studio after his short film ‘Disassembled’, a parody of Marvel’s superheroes, went viral and gained international attention. This short film spawned the series ‘Bad Days’, which was made for and with ‘Spider-Man’ creator Stan Lee. In studio, Junaid directed, wrote and animated numerous projects, including for the YouTube channel How It Should Have Ended, and made the award-winning short fantasy parody ‘Short but Powerful'(2017).

In 2018, Junaid decided to freelance again. Besides commissioned work for Valve and Cas van de Pol, among others, and making the animated series ‘Hideous Henk’ (2020) for NPO/NTR, Junaid also spends time on his own projects, such as making the short film ‘Space Hit and Things’ (2019) and the web series ‘Gerard and Stipje’ (since 2013), whose 50th episode titled ‘Animazelen’ will run at the Kaboom Animation Festival.
