Last week, just like many other design lovers, designer Leonne Cuppen (Yksi) visited Milan Design Week 2016. She made For Dutch Design Daily a selection of four Dutch designers/collectives which particularly drew her attention.

Leonne Cuppen: “Unique work with a story. Notable for its material use, its choice and application, the applied new technologies, and the translation of social issues. ”

Meaningful Encounters
“Five projects by not yet graduated (!) designers of HKU design (Utrecht School of the Arts). On site, the students had meetings with fellow designers, the public and random passers-by. They presented sustainable topics, such as the circular economy, which aims at creating sustainable spaces and materials. Sophie Roumans showed ‘The Publishers’, a platform with artworks and stories of refugees.” With: Sophie Roumans, Charlotte van Alem, Jenske Hamming, Hester de Wolff and Zoe Daemen/Sofie Ijzerman.

Maybe blue would have been better
“Also the work by Jeroen Wand and Mieke Meijer, who had a joint presentation for the second time in Lambrate, really stood out. Their new installation ‘Scenery’ included objects like Laminated Shelving, Membrane Cabinet, Tripod Vases, and others.”

Envisions
“The work displayed in this group exhibition focused on insights into different phases of the design process that the public normally never sees. By revealing more about their work – and themselves –, the exhibitors (all graduates from Design Academy Eindhoven) created a climate for interaction and exchange.” With: Adrianus Kundert, Bastiaan de Nennie, Iwan Pol, Jeroen van de Gruiter, Sanne Schuurman, Simone Post, Studio Plott, Studio Truly Truly and Tijs Gilde.

Boschrooms
“The work by David Derksen for Cor Unum’s project ‘Changing the Skin’: ceramic objects with the skin and shape of fungi revealing beautiful colors and structures.”
