‘Out There’ is a two-part exhibition showing contemporary ‘landscape images’ by renowned artists and young talent. Part 1 was on view in Maastricht in October 2014. ‘Out There # 2’ presents every night 25 video and photo works on two public locations in Rotterdam.
These contemporary landscapes may have a basis in (social) media, Google Earth, GPS, webcams, and Flickr. They have been constructed in studios, in front of a computer, or in a landscape explicitly manipulated by the artist. The works of art are part of a 500-year-old tradition of landscape art. The old frames of reference have been stretched and updated with new techniques and views.
Gathered from museums, galleries or off the computer screen and put on display in the public space of a modern urban district, the landscape works enter into fascinating relationships with the architecture and the environment.
