Raakvlak

Loes Schepens

Exhibition | Material

Presentatiestudio in The Hague presents the exhibition ‘Raakvlak’ (Interface) by Loes Schepens. The exhibition shows works made of paper.

Loes Schepens makes free work and commissioned work of self-made paper derived from sustainable and vegetable fibers. She paints, prints, perforates, adds, ties, and folds this paper into objects and graphic images. Fibers like flax, cotton, hemp, kozo and nettle form the basis for the paper and the research. With nature as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and personal narratives, this leads to paper images.

Loes has learned the craft from different paper makers such as the Belgian artist Jean Decoster and a paper master on the island of Shikoku (Japan). She traveled to Myanmar, Korea and Japan for research. On her self-made paper she applies graphic techniques such as (screen) printing and laser engravings (in small quantities).
