In a multidisciplinary team, Iris Bekkers is investigating the possibilities of allowing bacteria to grow a biofilm that changes shape when the humidity of the environment changes. A series of experiments led to a collection of material samples. But does such cooperation yield just as much for bacteria as it does for humans? And is that what we want to achieve? A study into steps towards a biobased future in which humans and organisms work together constructively. (With Menno Bas, Joana Coronel Soler, Shams Hazim, Kevin Vos and Vadim Steveniers).
